Snowy Softball Tournament To Raise Money For CancerCare

There's still time to sign up a team and play

Hate cancer? Like softball? Don't mind the cold?

Then we have the softball tournament for you.

The SPC Sports Softball League is holding a pair of "snowball" tournaments at Mentor High School.

The first is for mens teams and will be this Saturday. The second tournament is coed and will be Jan. 19. Both are one day, double elimination, one-pitch adult softball tournaments.

Each team entry costs $250.

All proceeds from the tournaments will be donated to CancerCare, including donations by the teams and umpires. There will also be a raffle to raise money for CancerCare during the mens tournament at noon on Jan. 12. Each raffle ticket costs $5.

David Godshall said the tournament drew around 240 players last year to Willoughby and Eastlake. This year -- with more teams than ever signed up -- they moved the tournament to the Mentor High fields.

However, despite having more teams than ever, there is still room for more.

Teams who are interested in playing in either tournament can email Godshall at sidewinding34@gmail.com.

Games go quickly -- usually 30-45 minutes long, Godshall said.

The tournament program can be viewed and downloaded from www.SPCSportsSoftballLeague.com.

Those who cannot make it to the tournaments but would still like to donate to CancerCare can visit SPC's CancerCare page.
