Mentor Track & Field Stars Heading to Regional Tournament

The Div. I tournament begins today in Youngstown

The Div. I regional track tournament begins today and several students from 's boys and girls' track and field teams will be competing at Austintown-Fitch High School in Youngstown.

The Mentor girls team became district champions on their home track last week and the boys team was second in the district, only trailing Glenville.

At the district tournament, senior Blake Lewis set a school record and became a district champion by running the 1600 m in 5:14.85.

The relay team of Lewis, Abby Meinen, Jenny Mulhall and Kinsey Robinson and senior Alex Aiello were also champs in the 4x800 (9:56) and pole vault (10 feet,) respectively.

Furthermore, Lewis and Aiello each qualified in the 800 m and 100 m, respectively, at the regional tournament.

Other girls who qualified for regionals are:

  • Caitlin Tanski, shot put
  • Emily Strayer, discus
  • Hallie Gatto, pole vault
  • Callyn Voase, Kristine Wagner, Aiello and Kaitlin De La Mata, 4x100
  • Wagner and Sam Birchall, 300 hurdles
  • Robinson, 3200 m
  • Wagner, Aiello, Jaime Eiben and Cassie Rozic, 4x400

Meanwhile, the qualifying boys are:

  • John Maurins, shot put
  • Jeff Gudowicz, 1600 m
  • Jared Keipert, 3200 m
  • Max Ostrowski, 800 m
  • Todd Flinn, 300 hurdles
  • Flinn, Terance Walton, Keith McCormick and Darren Ingram, 4x200 relay
  • Marc Walton, Flinn, Ostrowski and Darren Ingram, 4x400 relay
  • Desi Ingram, Jeff Gudowicz, Keipert and Ostrowski, 4x800 relay
