Mentor Track & Field Sends Eight Students to States

Seven boys and one girl from Mentor will compete in the upcoming state tournament

Cardinal red will be well-represented next week when the Division I State Track & Field Tournament begins in Columbus.

Eight student-athletes from Mentor High School qualified for the tournament after soaring above the competition at the regional tournament, which was held Wednesday to Friday at Austintown-Fitch High School. Their talents will be on display again at the state tournament June 7-8 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University. Click here for more event information.

Four of the Mentor students are from the third-place 4x400 Meter Relay team. Lake Catholic High School will also have representation at states, with sophomore Matt Ludwig qualifying in the pole vault competition. Lake Catholic sophomore Frances Bull qualified for the girls 400 meter run and Joanna Hallisy made both the discus throw and shot put.

Boys

  • Eddie Daugherty, sophomore, High Jump
  • Jaylen Dowdy, senior, 4x400 Meter Relay; 400 Meter Dash
  • Jeff Gudowicz, senior, 3200 Meter Run
  • Austin Hankins, junior, 4x400 Meter Relay
  • Darren Ingram, junior, 4x400 Meter Relay
  • John Maurins, junior, Shotput
  • Marc Walton, sophomore, 4x400 Meter Relay
Girls
  • Ashlyn Woods, senior 3200 Meter Run
