Mentor Softball Secures Regional Tournament Spot

The team moves on to the Akron regional next week against Solon

The Mentor Cardinals softball team is regional tournament-bound following a big 3-1 victory over Riverside in the district final this week.

According to The News-Herald, it was the first time the team advanced to regionals since 2006. Though players and coaches didn't know that fact, they're all ready for the next round against Solon on May 30.

"It's going to be awesome," senior Lindsey Valvoda told the newspaper. "We're ready for it. We believe we're ready for it now."

The Cardinals scored their three runs in the third inning after being down 1-0 to Riverside.

Mentor's sweet 16 tilt against Solon begins at 5 p.m. next Thursday at Lee Jackson Field at the University of Akron. Mentor beat Solon two weeks ago on a game-ending, double play.
