Mentor Softball Gets First-Ever Regional Final Bid

Mentor beat Solon 3-2 and will play Medina on Saturday.

Sports teams from Mentor High School keep on winning and making history.

This time, it's the softball team and the girls' first-ever bid to a regional final game.

Mentor beat Solon 3-2 on Wednesday in Akron, marking the third time this season the Cardinals bested the Comets. Mentor will face Medina in a regional final matchup at 3 p.m. at The University of Akron.

"I've played varsity since I was a freshman, and we were considered a joke," senior catcher Megan Massey told The News-Herald. "The only time people heard of Mentor or talked about Mentor was because of the basketball team and football team. We want that too.

"We are so thankful to have an awesome athletic program, but now we're having some attention ourselves and I couldn't be happier."

Medina beat Austintown-Fitch, 5-3, according to Cleveland.com.
