Mentor's Brandon Fritts Commits to UNC

The junior will join Mitch Trubisky next season

A standout from Mentor's junior class has already decided where he will play football in 2014.

Brandon Fritts announced this week that he will play for the University of North Carolina. He'll join former Mentor quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who left for UNC in January.

“Glad to say i am Officially committed to the University of North Carolina! #tarheelnation #blessed!” the junior tweeted earlier this week.

“Just wanted to thank everyone who congratulated me all at once, couldn’t be more thankful for the support! It feels great to be a tar heel,” he wrote a few hours later.

North Carolina recruited him as a tight end, according to UNC football blog Keeping it Heel. Fritts also received offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Minnesota, and Toledo.

Fritts had a combined 22 receptions for 345 yards in back-to-back playoff wins over St. Edward and St. Ignatius, according to stats from OhioVarsity.com Fritts had a combined 22 receptions for 345 yards. His two-point conversion catch in overtime sealed a memorable 57-56 win over the Wildcats in the Division I regional final.

"I thought UNC was the perfect fit for me. It felt like a second home as soon as I visited," Fritts told Ohio Varsity. "Mitch was very supportive and he was there through the process to answer questions, but I wouldn't say he played a huge factor in my decision.

"I really felt like the school and the program and the offense was just right for me and I can't wait to be a part of it."
