Mentor Gymnasts, Wrestlers, Swimmers & More Headed To Districts

Mentor athletes will compete this weekend with a slot at states on the line

The ante has been upped.

Cardinals on the wrestling, bowling, gymnastics and swimming teams all performed well enough at districts .

Now they will need to do the same this weekend to earn a spot at their respective state championships.

Look for these highlights from the Cardinals this weekend:

They will face off against Chardon at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Perry. Tickets are available at the athletic office.

  • The boys basketball team looks to bounce back . If they beat Brunswick today, they will lock up a share of the NOC Valley Division title.
  • Swimmer Maria Coy qualified in the 200-meter intermediate and 100-meter breaststroke events at the state meet this weekend in Canton.

As a freshman, in swimming.

  • The gymnastics team won a sectional championship during the weekend and will compete in the district meet at Riverside High this Saturday.

The top four teams at districts will qualify for the state meet the following weekend.

  • Ten members of the wrestling team qualified for this weekend’s district wrestling tournament at Mentor High. The top four in each weight class advance to the state tournament in Columbus.

Those Mentor wrestlers who will compete are Colin Kramer (106 lbs.,) Mark Molder (113,) Alex Barich (120,) Jordan Victor (132,) Warren Ashton (145,) Jacob Henry (152,) Troy Rosko (170,) Wade Phillips (182,) Aaron Wank (195) and Tyler Sullens (220.)

  • The boys and girls bowling teams will compete at districts this weekend in Kent with the top four teams advancing to the state tournament.
