The Mentor football team's bid to exceed last year's playoff run begins in a month.
The Mentor Cardinals open the season Aug. 30 by hosting the McDowell Trojans of Erie, Pa. The following week presents a big-time regional matchup with St. Ignatius.
The Cardinals advanced to the state semifinals last season before falling to Toledo Whitmer. The team beat Warren Harding, St. Edward and St. Ignatius during that run, including a thrilling triple-overtime, 57-56 victory over the Wildcats.

- Sept. 20: at Twinsburg
- Sept. 27: at Brush
- Oct. 4: home vs. Shaker Heights
- Oct. 11: home vs. Brunswick
- Oct. 18: at Solon
- Oct. 25: home vs. Hudson
- Nov. 1: at Strongsville
