Mentor Beats Brush 62-43 After Early Struggles

Mentor was down 28-7 in the second quarter before reeling off five touchdown drives in eight minutes.

Down 28-7 in the second quarter on the road, Mentor's coach kept his football team calm—so calm that it reeled it off five touchdown drives in eight minutes to take the lead.

When it was all said and done, the Cardinals beat Brush, 62-43, and improved to 4-1. Quarterback Conner Krizancic led the way with a monster, six-touchdown night worth 423 total yards.

“I didn’t really tell them anything (down 28-7) except let’s go and start playing,” coach Steve Trivisonno told OhioVarsity.com. “I thought we were OK and I thought defensively we would start getting some stops as long as we knocked off the penalties and some of the silly mistakes."

The Cardinal defense recovered two fumbles as Mentor bounced back from that second-quarter deficit. The scoring continued in the second half with two touchdown passes from Krizancic to senior Corey Plavcan and 51-yard touchdown run by the quarterback.

“Right now I think we feel very good as an offense and we are all getting comfortable,” Krizancic said. “We talk about putting up a lot of points, and 42 in the half last week and 62 tonight seems pretty good so we are moving in the right direction.”

Running back Eddie Daugherty also had an impressive night, netting four touchdowns on just under 200 total yards.

Mentor is back at home next Friday to take on the Shaker Heights Red Raiders.

“We have some good teams coming up the next few weeks so we need to be ready,” Trivisonno said. “We bounced back real nice in the second quarter, but we have to do a better job of getting out and play better than we did early tonight.”
