Mentor and Lake Catholic boys basketball teams routed Medina and Perry, respectively, Tuesday night.

Mentor shared the scoring with five Cardinals notching 11 or more points. Meanwhile, Lake Catholic leaned on a hot night from Zavier Powers.

Powers led all scorers with 27 points. Mark Baniewicz scored 15 and Ben Meola -- whose last-moment heroics secured a win Friday against Archbishop Hoban -- had 11 for the Cougars.

After winning their last two games by a combined 81 points, the Medina Bees kept the game relatively close.

The Cardinals (3-0) only led by 14 at the half against winless Medina (0-3). The final score was 87-66.

Cardinals shared the points Tuesday. Caleb Potter had 15 points; Conner Krizancic, 14; Kade McClure, 13 points and six rebounds; Kyle Hagey finished with 12; and Brody Nelson returned from injury to score 11.

Jeff Foreman also scored 8 despite running into early foul trouble.

“Last year was the same type of game the Tuesday before Christmas against Medina we had to grind it out and maybe that’s a good thing for us,” Mentor coach Bob Krizancic said to Ohio Varsity.

“We are still waiting for Brandon (Fritts) to come back (from an ankle injury) and we need to make some small changes in what we are doing to be a better basketball team, but I like where we are at right now."

The Cougars play next against Benedictine this Friday. The Cardinals face Willoughby South Friday before returning to the Arby's Classic Tournament.

Additionally, the Lake Catholic girls basketball team plays St. Joseph Academy tonight while the Mentor girls basketball team faces off with Solon.
