The Second Annual 5K Rabbit Run/Walk is Sunday, Oct. 28, at Rabbit Run Theater in Madison. In a unique collaborative effort, this annual event is co-sponsored by the East End YMCA and Rabbit Run Community Arts Association.
The run/walk is open to all ages with a special Kids Fun Run for younger children on the grounds of the theater. In keeping with the Halloween spirit, participants may dress in their favorite costume. The course for the event begins and ends at Rabbit Run Theater and extends to the surrounding neighborhood.
Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female runners and the 5K Run top three male and female finishers for each age group. Age brackets are 14 and under, 15 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59 and 60 plus.
“Rabbit Run Theater is a great place for a run, because the area is so attractive in the fall.” said Dan Nichols, co-coordinator. “Our inaugural Run/Walk was a great start in building this into a community event. It was a pleasure to collaborate with Alyssa Gustwiller, the East End YMCA and our blended committee of both organizations. I am looking forward to another successful run this year”.
“With almost doubling our participant goal in 2011, we are excited to co-host this event again,” said Alyssa Gustwiller, Health and Wellness Director, East End YMCA. “It is only natural that our two community-based organizations work together. Our organizations deal with such diverse populations, and it is wonderful bringing them together on event day.”
The first 150 people to register receive a t-shirt. Participants should register by Oct. 12 to guarantee shirt size.
Pre event registration is $18/person or $40/family; registration the day of the event is $20/person or $45/family.
Registration forms are available at the YMCA, 730 Lake St., Madison or at RRCAA, 49 Park St., Madison or online at www.lakecountyymca.org or www.rabbitrunonline.org. For more information call the YMCA at 440-428-5125 or Rabbit Run at 440-428-5913.
