Cardinals Football Has Parma seeing Red

Trubisky leads Mentor to drubbing, shutout of Redmen

Mentor quarterback Mitch Trubisky played a little more than a quarter, all 103 players on the roster made it on to the field and no Cardinals got hurt.

Needless to say, Mentor head coach Steve Trivisonno is a very happy man heading into Northeast Ohio Conference Valley play.

In what amounted to a formality, the Cardinals trounced Parma, 55-0, in a NOC crossover game at Byers Field on Friday night. The Cardinals raised their record to 4-1 on the season, while the Redmen fell to 1-4. The Redmen also lost, 55-0, to Shaker Heights last week.

Not surprisingly, it was over quickly.

In short order in the first quarter, North Carolina recruit Trubisky found Brandon Fritts for a 38-yard touchdown pass. Conner Krizancic scampered 86 yards for a TD, and Trubisky tossed a winner to Nick Delisa for a 30-yard TD pass. Fritts finished off the first-quarter scoring with a 37-yard TD pass from Trubisky.

“We were able to do pretty much what we wanted,” Trivisonno said. “We got to play 103 kids and got out of there healthy.”

Krizancic accepted Trubisky’s fourth and final TD pass of the game from 20 yards away, and Delisa and Eddie Daugherty capped off the quarter with TD runs of 25 and 5 yards, respectively, for a 49-0 halftime lead.

Brenden Parker tacked on a 1-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

Mentor travels to Brunswick in the NOC Valley opener for both teams next Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.

“Brunswick is a great football team, and we’ll see what we’re made of,” Trivisonno said.
