Brandon Fritts to Skip Basketball Season for Early Graduation

Fritts will join Mitch Trubisky at the University of North Carolina

If Mentor's basketball team can defend its state championship, it will have to be done without Brandon Fritts.

Fritts has announced that he will graduate early from Mentor to enroll at the University of North Carolina, according to Ohio Varsity. Fritts first announced his decision to attend and play football at UNC in May via Twitter.

"It is a big loss for us, and I wish Brandon the best, but we went through it before with Mitch (Trubisky) and hopefully as a program we are prepared to overcome this," Mentor Basketball coach Bob Krizancic told Ohio Varsity. "This is something we had to at least consider was a possibility and prepare for this summer with our younger guys."

Fritts, who will play tight end and wide receiver at UNC, said he plans on being "Mentor's biggest basketball cheerleader" before departing.
