Schools, Roads Closed Because of Flooding

Heavy rains have flooded certain sections of Mentor, so be careful during your morning commute

An overnight rainstorm paired with melting snow has flooded certain roads in the city.

Here is a complete list of closed roads in the city of Mentor as of 8:30 a.m.:

  • Bellflower Road and Route 306
  • Hopkins Road and Markwood Drive by the creek
  • the underpass on Route 306 beneath the train tracks
  • Bellflower Road and Independence Drive
  • Atkins Road and Kittery Lane
  • East Avenue and Patterson Drive
  • Heisley Road and Progress Drive
  • Route 20 and Old Johnnycake Road is also slowed, but its center lanes are still passable

A few homes in Mentor and Mentor-on-the-Lake have reported flooding in their basement, but nobody was reported hurt or displaced.

,  and are closed because flooding on city roadways. This is the sixth calamity day of the year for these schools, except for Garfield Elementary, which has used nine.

The legislative breakfast at LaMalfa Center is not canceled, but drivers will have to come in via Route 2 because of the closure at Heisley and Progress.

The National Weather Service warned that one to two inches of rainfall overnight would cause water to rise in lowland levels and that some of these areas might not drain until Tuesday. The NWS said that 1.77 inches of rain fell in Mentor overnight.
