Project PEAK Teaches Mentor Students Everything From Math & Reading To Etiquette

Project PEAK is a different kind of summer school that teaches etiquette, money sense and several other life skills, as well as scholastic subjects

School may be out for summer but some Mentor students never stopped learning.

At Project PEAK, kids met every Wednesday for eight weeks to study reading, mathematics and life skills that don't always make it into the classroom.

Those skills include goal-setting, proper introductory and dining etiquette, the value of hard work and money, as well as career and college options that will be available after high school.

The curriculum came full circle when, earlier this month, students put on a large-scale event for all of their families at .

The students prepared dinner, complete with table settings and center pieces, and used knowledge they gained from previous outings, like the importance of planning before going to the grocery store to compare prices and find an affordable meal.

faculty, including Principal Mike Lynch, launched Project PEAK last summer.

They mixed traditional academic studies with field trips that reinforced life skills.

This year, Project PEAK expanded to include students and staff from and elementary schools.

Ten students also served as junior campers.
