Mentor Schools Assistant Superintendent William Porter will make a presentation regarding the district's security measures to the Board of Education during the upcoming Board meeting.
The meeting will be 7 p.m. today (Jan.8) in the district's administration building.
After the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, Mentor Superintendent Matthew Miller wrote a letter to the community that discusses Mentor Schools' security measures.
"I realize this tragedy has raised questions by many of you about our own safety procedures here at Mentor Schools. The safety of our students and staff is the number one priority of the district," Miller wrote.
"We continually work with local law enforcement and emergency officials to evaluate, update and practice safety plans and procedures for each of our buildings to make sure we are as prepared for every crisis as possible."
Miller also said that the district had recently increased spending to improve security features, including the addition of cameras to several of their buildings.
The Board will also recognize its district's Service Facility Dedication recipients during the meeting.
