Mentor Schools, Lake Catholic Closed Because of Snow ... Again

In what has become a repetitive refrain this winter, both Mentor Schools and Lake Catholic have canceled class today because of snow.

This will make the seventh calamity day that schools have used – five for snow, one specifically for ice and one because of flooding. The exception is , which also lost three days of school because of a fire earlier this year.

The schools only get three calamity days and that means they might have to make up as many as four days during weekends, holidays or at the end of the year.

However, a proposed bill that would return the allotted calamity days from three to five was approved by the Senate and is being considered by the state House of Representatives.

As per makeup days, Lake Catholic was already scheduled to have class March 17 and 18. Garfield Elementary was open on Presidents Day and will have class on April 21.

The rest of Mentor Schools is waiting to see what happens with the proposed legislation before it schedules any makeup days for the entire district, .

It is not yet known how the snow day will affect the schools' planned extracurricular activities for today. This story will be updated as possible with that information.
