Mentor Schools Extends School Year to Make up for Calamity Days

Mentor Schools has added two more days to the school year to make up for days that were canceled because of weather

Mentor Schools has tacked two more days onto its school year to make up for days when class was canceled because of weather.

Instead of ending the school year on June 9, the district will also have class on Friday, June 10, and Monday, June 13.

The district used seven calamity days this year because of , and even . Right now, Ohio school districts are only allotted three calamity days. However, legislation has been suggested that would retroactively increase that number to five.

House Bill 36 has already passed through both houses of the state legislature and awaits the governor's signature to be approved.

, which required an additional three calamity days because of a fire, will also have class on April 21 and June 14.

also used seven calamity days this year, but it already made up two days on March 17 and 18. That means it will not need to make up any more days if the pending legislation is approved.
