Mentor Schools Board To Honor State-Qualifying Cross Country Teams

The Board of Education will also recognize a trio of award-winning art teachers in the school district

The Mentor Schools Board of Education will recognize Mentor High's state-qualifying cross country teams, as well as a trio of award-winning art teachers, during its meeting at 7 p.m. today at the district's administration building.

Both the boys and girls cross country teams had impressive seasons. The boys finished eighth in the state; the girls, 12th.

Furthermore, both teams had a standout performer.

Jeff Gudowicz ran a 15:55 at the state meet, giving him the third fastest time in Mentor High School cross country history.

Meanwhile, Kinsey Robinson ran a 18:41, which broke the school record for cross country that was set in 1984. She did this despite tripping in the first 200 meters of the race.

Also at the Board meeting:

  • The Board will honor a triumvirate of art teachers who were recognized as running the seventh, 10th and 14th best online art galleries for schools in the state.

The rankings were done by Artsonia - the world’s largest online kid’s art museum.

Donna Fiore of Orchard Hollow Elementary School was ranked seventh; Heidi Toot of Hopkins Elementart, 10th; and Ray LaManna of Garfield Elementary, 14th.

  • The Board will also congratulate the district for receiving a preliminary ranking of Excellent with Distinction.
