Mentor Schools Board of Education To Appoint Drew Sparacia to BOE

Sparacia will fill the vacancy created by Gwen Corban's resignation

The Mentor Schools Board of Education plans to appoint Drew Sparacia to serve on its Board during its Aug. 23 meeting, according to a news release from the district.

Sparacia will fill the vacancy left by . The term runs through Dec. 31, 2013.

The remaining four Board members selected Sparacia from a field of five candidates who were interviewed.

Sparacia has served on the School Board before. He was appointed to a vacated seat in 2004 during a fiscal emergency. He was then elected in 2005 to finish serving that unexpired term through Dec. 31, 2007.

“We are excited to begin working with Mr. Sparacia, who we know is extremely invested in the school system, with four children enrolled currently,” Board President Thomas Tuttle said in a statement. “Plus, we believe his experience serving on the Board as the district was emerging from fiscal emergency will be beneficial in navigating the challenges school district’s face in the current economic climate. His prior Board experience will also allow him to immediately begin contributing to our important work ahead.”

Sparacia is a founding partner of global X, a tax consulting company that specializes in historic preservation. He earned his juris doctorate from Case Western Reserve University's school of law.

He lives in Concord Township with his wife and four children.

He spends his free time coaching youth sports in Mentor and is a Board Member for the Mentor Youth Football Association.

“I look forward to helping the Mentor Board of Education continue to improve on its already excellent track record of providing a top notch education for the children of Mentor Schools while keeping costs contained for the Mentor taxpayers," Sparacia said, according to the news release.

"I am especially excited to work with the administration, teachers, support staff and the rest of the Mentor community to develop and implement the solutions necessary to accomplish our goals in a time of accelerated change.”
