Mentor School District Scores Perfect Audit

This marks the third consecutive perfect audit from the state

The Mentor Public Schools has come up perfect again.

The district held a brief celebration during its most recent Board of Education meeting in response to the district's third consecutive perfect audit from the State of Ohio. The district also received the Auditor's Award.

"The fiscal management of the community's money resulted in no negative comments at all," Chief Financial Officer Daniel L. Wilson said. "(The state gave) no citations, no recommendation from management letter — this, in my mind, is a step above a clean audit."

Wilson said the auditing process took three or four months during which people from Auditor Dave Yost's office monitor the district's checks and balances and processes. The examine larger checks and a random sample of others.

"We issue 10,000 vendor checks a year and 29,000 employee checks a year," Wilson said. "During their sampling, they could find nothing to make a recommendation about or improve that we weren't doing."

Wilson said employees from his office all received a certificate as part of recognition for the feat.

"In my experience, it's a very unusual event to have three consecutive audits that were perfect," Wilson said. "It feels excellent because we met a goal."
