Mentor School District Gets Two 'A' Grades on State Report Card

View the new state report card for Mentor's school district.

Mentor Schools received a top grade on two of the major categories of its report card from the Ohio Department of Education.

Mentor got 'A' grades in "Indicators Met" and "overall value added" progress for fourth to eighth graders in math and reading. The district met all 24 of the state's indicators.

“We have anticipated more rigorous measures from the Ohio Department of Education, and we are pleased our students are achieving at a high level and showing great academic growth overall,” Superintendent Matthew Miller said in a statement on the district's website. "Yet, we have room to improve in several specific areas. This past summer, we started making shifts in our staffing and instruction, with blended learning initiatives as one example, to make sure we are best preparing our students for their future.”

The room for improvement comes in categories like "Gap Closing," which measures the annual reading, math, and graduation performance of the students. The district got a 'C' in this category. It received 'B's on its graduation rates and performance index.

The district and its parents can expect to see component grades and an overall district grade in 2015.
