Mentor School Board Appoints New Library Trustee

The board voted unanimously to appoint Sonja Maier to the Library Board of Trustees

The Mentor Schools Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Sonja Maier to the Mentor Public Library Board of Trustees during a meeting Wednesday afternoon.

Maier was selected from a  to fill the vacancy created when  so he could .

Maier has lived in the city of Mentor for more than 20 years and worked in  as a special education teacher.

She is also a member of the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

"We are excited and feel Mrs. Maier's work serving on the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities/Deepwood will bring a new element of experience to the Mentor Public Library," School Board Member William Shaw said. "She has demonstrated a commitment to public service that we believe will benefit the library and its patrons."

Maier thanked the School Board and said she looked forward to promoting the library's programs and events.

"Reading is very important. It's the cornerstone of education," she said.

The Board also thanked the other applicants.

"Certainly, we appreciate the high level of interest from the community to serve on the Library Board," Shaw said.

After the School Board appointed Maier, it went into an executive session to discuss its own impending vacancy.

 as of Aug. 1 and the board has received applications from those who would like to finish her term, which ends in December 2013.
