Mentor High Runners Earn State Bids

Five runners from the Mentor High School boys track and field team are headed to states

Five runners from the boys track and field team earned state bids during the over the weekend.

Senior Max Ostrowski qualified, finishing second in the open 800 m. It is the first time a Mentor runner has qualified in the 800 since 1994, according to The News-Herald.

"I know I wanted to go hard in the first lap," Ostrowski told the newspaper. "My plan was just to lead in the opening until I died."

Meanwhile, the 4x800 relay team -- senior Desi Ingram, juniors Jared Keipert and Jeff Gudowizc and sophomore Darren Ingram -- also qualified for states.

The state track and field tournament will begin this Friday in Columbus.
