Lake Catholic Students 'Pass It On' This Ash Wednesday

Lake Catholic students commemorate Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent with traditional ceremony

Michele Bernot, the campus minister at , is encouraging her students to pass it on this Lent.

That means, in addition to giving something up, she wants them to perform random acts of kindness.

"How different would this place be with 800 additional acts of kindness?" Bernot asked students during the Ash Wednesday program.

Today marks the beginning of Lent in which Catholics, as well as other Christian groups,  remember the sacrifices Jesus made with sacrifices of their own.

They also have their foreheads marked with the ashes. These ashes come from the palms that were used in last year's Palm Sunday masses.
