Lake Catholic Students Wrap Books for Elementary Kids

Book Club Members Deliver 172 books to Cleveland Students

Student members of Lake Catholic’s Book Club have started a new Christmas tradition.

Earlier this week, about 40 students spent their lunch period gift wrapping books for every elementary school student of St. Jerome’s Catholic School in Cleveland.

“This is the first time we are doing this, so we are hoping to start a tradition,” said Lake Catholic Librarian Sally Goodman. “We wanted to be able to do something for every child in the school.”

In October, the book club held a fundraising event at Mentor’s Barnes & Noble bookstore and raised about $500. The club decided to use the funds to buy new books for elementary students to enjoy.

Lake Catholic students wrapped 172 books and taped a candy cane on each gift. On Wednesday, they traveled to St. Jerome’s School to hand out the books.

“These kids are great,” Goodman said. “They just love doing things like this and giving their time for others.”

After all, that's what the Christmas spirit is all about.
