Headlands Elementary Hosting a Night for Alumni Before It Closes

Former students, staff and parents are invited to share memories of the school at the PTA ice cream social Wednesday

is inviting all of its former students, staff and parents for a farewell 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Current and former students, staff, parents and community members are welcome to add their memories to posters and view pictures, videos and slides of the school's history.

The gathering is organized by the Headlands PTA.

 is closing at the end of this school year because of a shrinking school budget and aging population that no longer needs as many elementary schools.

Headlands students will go to either  or  depending on which street they live. Additionally, some Sterling Morton students will attend Orchard Hollow next year because of the shift.

In addition to alumni night, Mentor Schools has organized a series of transitional events to make Headlands' closing easier on the affected families. For example, Headlands parents were invited to Orchard Hollow and Sterling Morton PTA meetings this spring.

Also, Headlands students are invited to participate in Sterling Morton's field day May 27.
