Enjoy Free Sample College Classes Saturday At Lakeland

People can take a free class in subjects as far ranging as acupuncture, African folklore, Irish history and astrophysics

Ever been curious about Irish history? How about astrophysics? Yoga?

Maybe you just want to know more about the educational options available at Lakeland Community College.

Well, you can learn more about any of those things -- and a lot more -- during Free College Day this Saturday morning at Lakeland.

As the name of the event states, people can take sample versions of dozens of Lakeland classes for free to see if they would be interested in learning more about the subject.

More than 30 courses ranging from paranormal investigation and acupuncture to effective writing and treasure hunting will be offered. (A complete list of offered classes and a schedule is attached to this story as a PDF.)

"Free College Day was started in 2002 to encourage the community to give Lakeland a try," said event co-organizer and Lakeland professor Christine Barnes. "Today, we continue the event to thank the residents of Lake County for their support over the past 45 years, especially over the ."

A number of special events are also planned for the day including: an early morning nature hike through Lakeland’s diverse habitat, a Post Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) session for high school students looking to take their junior or senior year at Lakeland, a book sale at the college's library and tours of the .

Along with these classes and special events, the college will be serving a specially priced breakfast deal and a free lunch for all participants in Lakeland’s Breakers Dining Hall.
