Board of Education Celebrates Mentor Students With Perfect Math OGT Scores

The Mentor Schools Board of Education recognized a pair of juniors Tuesay night who earned perfect scores on their math Ohio Graduation Test.

Brandon Balash and Kaitlin Muzic joined just 358 students across the state in that accomplishment, MHS Principal William Wade said during the Board meeting. That is just .28 percent of all students who took it.

Also at the Board meeting:

• the Board recognized MHS teacher Scott Panchik for .
• the Board had its first reading of the revised district policy on bullying, harassment and intimidation.

The new policy is similar to its predecessor. (It's attached to this story as a PDF if anyone wants to read it in its entirety.) However, it expands the definition of bullying to include .

"Cyberbullying" includes taunting, intimidating or embarrassing fellow students using phones, computers or other electronic means.

The proposed policy lists abusive texts, posting embarrassing photos on the Internet, using slurs on social sites and using the Internet to spread rumors or gossip as unacceptable behavior.

The policy also includes one other noteworthy change. It now defines violence within a relationship as a form of bullying, harassment or intimidation.

The Board did not vote on the new policy yet because it is only on its first reading.
