Visions for Vacancies: Dr. Greenbee's Acorn Alley Spot

Patch's Visions for Vacancies asks for reader input on empty commercial spaces

Change is coming to Acorn Alley following the temporary closure of retail shop Dr. Greenbee.

The eco-friendly retailer announced plans in November to recipients of its email newsletter the store will relocate to a larger space in Kent with better accessibility and more parking. A specific space has yet to be announced publicly.

"We will miss our friends in Acorn Alley but feel this is the best decision for our customers," the newsletter states. "We are looking at a few locations in Kent and plan to reopen May 15."

In the meantime, that means their old spot off of Burbick Way (formerly Alley 4) could be available to the next Kent entrepreneur.

We want to know what kind of business or use would be a good fit in the building and serve Kent's downtown neighborhood well.

Share your suggestions for the space's new use in the comments.

Anyone know what the rent is like for the space?

...Sounds like there are some good ideas being thrown around here and also there are probably quite a few more excellent things churning in the minds of some wonderfully enterprising and inspiring (and inspired) Kent-ites, unfortunately there also seems to be one depressing individual who loves to knock everyones new ideas down as quickly as they can be suggested! What a shame!...I'm sure that same person would have had a field day laughing and belittling the idea of opening a popcorn shop (yes, just popcorn, nothing else)...but low and behold, someone did open a popcorn store! And it's wonderful! And it's well received by the community with what appears to be very nice sales, very friendly and hard working people and with the best darn popcorn I've ever tasted!! Popped is certainly a huge success! So please naysayer, let the people of Kent have a few seconds to suggest some very good ideas with trying to pull the rug out from under them instantly! Let free enterprise and great ideas flow without all this negative energy!

sounds like someone is channeling neighbor ned's real motivations - can't force a nemesis to sell property just by convincing the owner. this is a much more effective route to neighborhood engineering
