Shooting Range Off Agenda For Planning Commission's Meeting Tonight

The property owner is in talks with a different business, according to city official

Mentor has been gradually moving toward bringing a shooting range to the city.

The Mentor Council even adjusted the city's legislation to make it possible.

However, the plans for the shooting range have taken back or, at least, a step to the side.

The Mentor Planning Commission was initially slated to have a public hearing and review a preliminary site plan during its meeting tonight from the North Coast Gun Club for a proposed shooting range on Justin Way.

However, the property owner -- who is not the gun club -- is now in talks with a different business for use of that property, said Ric Spence, Mentor's planning administrator.

This does not mean the North Coast Gun Club couldn't negotiate with another property owner in Mentor to open up a shooting range in one of the city's industrial zones.

It does, however, mean both the public hearing and site plan review are off the Commission's agenda for tonight.

Here are some items that are still on the agenda for the meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at Mentor City Hall:

  • The Commision is scheduled to review the final site plan for Red Wine & Brew, which will be a beverage store that intends to carry the largest selection of wine and beer in the state.
  • The Commission is slated to review the preliminary site plan for a new, proposed industrial office building on Hamilton Way.

The Commission's agenda is attached to this story as a PDF.
