Planning Commission To Discuss Sheetz, Proposed Office Complex & More Tonight

Several businesses have applied recently to the Planning Commission for conditional use permits so they can operate in the city, and the commission is scheduled to meet and possibly vote on the requests 7 p.m. today at .

The permit request that has garnered the most attention is from . The business has .

In 2010, Mentor City Council voted 4-3 against letting set up a gas station there.

However, three of the four people who voted against it are no longer on council and Sheetz is once again trying to set up shop at 7766 Lake Shore Blvd.

The first time Sheetz tried to move in, some Mentor residents who lived nearby initially opposed the idea. However, a few of these neighbors changed their mind when Sheetz offered to make compromises, including getting rid of outdoor music and adding landscaping buffers.

The new permit request notes that the families who live directly south of the property support Sheetz's request.

Also at the Planning Commission meeting:

  • Richard Osborne Jr. has at the southwest corner of the Bellflower/Center Street intersection.

The proposed office complex would consist of three 3,200-square-foot buildings and each building would be divided into two units.

Originally, the 7-acre property where the buildings would go, if approved, were zoned for single-family homes. However, in Nov. 2003, voters approved an initiative petition from Osborne to rezone it for business.

  • Awaken Yoga Studio, School and Healing Arts Studio at 7312 Center St.
  • Tina Caniglia and Peter Santorelli are at 8824 Mentor Ave. in the Mentor Town Plaza.

If approved, Gotta Dance Studio would offer both ballroom dance classes and private lessons.

The owners also want to host weekly dances on Friday nights.

  • The MotorMouth Food Truck is asking for a permit to operate in the parking lot of the .
  • Fresenius Medical Care wants to open a dialysis clinic at 8840 Tyler Boulevard.
