Planning Commission Can Vote On Permits For Burger, FroYo Restaurants

Both a new burger restaurant and new frozen yogurt shop want to open in Mentor

A pair of new eateries that want to open in Mentor -- a sit-down burger restaurant and a new -- are both looking to the Planning Commission for permits.

The Commission will meet 7 p.m. today in City Hall.

Both BurgerFI and FroYo Twist hope the commission will grant them a permit that allows outdoor dining.

BurgerFI is a franchise that was started in Florida. It markets itself as an urban roadside burger stand that sells customizable burgers and "hipster dogs."

It wants to open 9184 Mentor Ave., which is a vacant lot that is part of the Mentor Commons Shopping Center at the moment.

If BurgerFi opens in Mentor, it would be the chain's first franchise in Ohio.

Meanwhile, a new FroYo Twist wants to open at 9662 Mentor Ave., which used to house Georgio's.

This would be the second FroYo Twist .

Also at tonight's Planning Commission meeting, two major projects will be showing their final site plans.

The first is for 's at 8540 Tyler Blvd.

In addition to building a Ford dealership, Classic Auto hopes to move its expanding Hyundai dealership to the former Ford location. This will allow both dealerships to expand, .

Villines told the Planning Commission that he would probably return to them later this year or early in 2013 with architectural re-imaging plans for the former Ford and future Hyundai building.

Villines said Classic Auto hopes to add about 50 jobs as a result of the two expanding dealerships.

Rick Osborne Jr. will also have the final site plan for his .

The proposed office complex would consist of three 3,200-square-foot buildings at the southwest corner of Bellflower and Center Street. Each building would be divided into two units.

Originally, the 7-acre property was zoned for single-family homes. However, in Nov. 2003, voters approved an initiative petition from Osborne to rezone it for business.
