Planning Commission Approves Final Site Plan For Osborne Office Complex

Planning Commission voted 6-1 to approve the plan for the complex at the intersection of Bellflower and Center Street

The Mentor Planning Commission during its meeting Thursday night at .

The proposed office complex will consist of three 3,200-square-foot buildings at the southwest corner of Bellflower and Center Street. Each building will be divided into two units.

Originally, the 7-acre property was zoned for single-family homes. However, in Nov. 2003, voters approved an initiative petition from Osborne to rezone it for business.

Before the Commission approved the final site plan Thursday, its members had some questions for Osborne.

Commission Member Sean Blake asked if a barrier could be put between the building closest to the interstate and the highway. Osborne said it could.

Commission Chairman Bill Snow asked if the proposed office buildings had any tenants yet. Osborne said they did not.

Snow then asked if Osborne would finish constructing the buildings even if they did not have tenants, . Snow added that he did not want a half-constructed building in such a high-profile location.

Osborne replied that he would finish the exteriors no matter what and, from the outside, the buildings would look completed. However, he added that it was impractical to lay the floor before he had tenants lined up.

The Commission then voted 6-1 to approve the final site plan with Thomas Huth supplying the only "nay."

When asked why he voted not to approve, Huth replied, "I was not confident the commitments would be honored."
