Ohio Rep. Ron Young to Discuss Senate Bill 5 With Mentor City Council Tonight

Representative is slated to talk about Senate Bill 5 at the beginning of Mentor City Council's meeting tonight

Ohio Rep. Ron Young, R-Leroy Township, is scheduled to talk about   5 with Mentor City Council at the start of its meeting 7 p.m. at City Hall.

Young will also offer comments on the    budget and will take questions from City Council.

Senate Bill 5 is a controversial new law that restricts the powers of unions, including those of police, firefighters and teachers.

Additionally, the budget – which was originally suggested by Ohio Gov. John Kasich – closes a $6 billion shortfall. However, it also introduced funding cuts to local ,  and .

Afterward, the city will have its regularly scheduled meeting, in which council will vote on a contract that would update  with low energy acoustical panels.

The panels would cost about $201,000 and are part of the city's energy-conservation projects, as well as 

Council is also scheduled to approve the city's tax budget, which provides a statement of spending that demonstrates the city's need for property tax revenues.

The county budget commission uses that information to set tax rates for the upcoming fiscal year.

A tax budget is not the same thing as an operating budget, which has not been finalized yet.
