Mentor's Unemployment Rate Drops

The July unemployment rate was 6 percent.

The unemployment rate in Mentor dropped by nearly 1 percent in July.

The rate dropped from 6.6 percent to 6 percent last month, according to the city's economic development department. The rate was 5.7 percent in July 2012.

At 27,900, Mentor's workforce is at its highest level since August 2011, according to a statement from the city's economic development department. The high mark was 31,600 in July 2007.
 
Mentor's July 2013 unemployment ranks slightly behind Lakewood (5.9 percent) in Ohio cities with a population of 50,000 or more. Mentor is also tied for 11th lowest among the 62 communities whose rates are calculated.

The county's rate dropped by 0.6 percent to 6.5 percent last year. The state is at 7.3 percent.
