Mentor Woman Requests Barn for Secretariat Relative

Mentor Board of Zoning Appeals is scheduled to hear woman's request tonight

The city of Mentor's Board of Zoning Appeals is scheduled to meet 7 p.m. today at .

One of the items the BZA is scheduled to hear is a request from a Mentor woman who would like to build a barn on her property on Woodland Place.

The barn would be for Barbara Parr's horse, a 27-year-old thoroughbred. The animal is a retired Metroparks Ranger horse and the great-great-grandson of Bold Ruler, an American Thoroughbred Hall of Fame racehorse that was the father of Secretariat.

The BZA previously granted permission 

Parr would like to build a 720-square-foot barn on her property. Usually, the city only allows support structures of 250 square feet or smaller.

A couple on Maple Street has also asked the BZA for permission to build a 1,320-square-foot garage on their property. The Board is scheduled to discuss the request today.
