Mentor Schools Officials Thank Voters for Passing Levies

Shortly after voters approved two levies for Mentor Schools, administrators thanked residents helping secure 18 percent of the budget.

The district said the following in a statement emailed Tuesday night to members of the media:

The Mentor Board of Education and district administrators are pleased that once again our community has voted to support a high quality education for students in Mentor Public Schools. The district is extremely grateful for the renewal of the no tax increase permanent improvement levy and the no tax increase levy to avoid an operating deficit, known throughout the campaign as Issues 1 & 2.

“We would like to extend a large thank you to everyone who showed their support for Mentor Schools at the polls today,” said Superintendent Matthew Miller. “And, especially to campaign manager Gwen Corban along with the many volunteers who worked hard over the last several weeks to ensure these important issues received the attention necessary to pass.”

The passage of these two renewal levies ensures 18% of the district’s operating budget will remain intact. This allows the district to focus on the strategic plan goals that continually lead to academic excellence, while maintaining the highest level of fiscal responsibility and accountability with taxpayer dollars.    

“This is truly a victory for our entire community,” said Chief Financial Officer Daniel L. Wilson. “In these challenging times of reduced state and federal funding for public education, it is up to the local community to maintain the necessary funding that provides our students with an education that will be the foundation for their future success.”
