Mentor Residents Can Get Free Trees To Replace Infected Ashes

The trees are paid for, in part, by a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources

Mentor residents who have lost an ash tree because of the emerald ash borer may be able to get a free tree to replace it.

The city received a match grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources worth $18,000 for the program. (A match grant is one in which the city must match the money given to them by the other organization -- in this case, the ODNR.)

This money is specifically being used to replace ash trees that are on the tree lawns of residents' properties.

The resident must be willing to remove the tree at their own expense.

And, if they are, they can get a new tree -- several types are available -- to replace it on the tree lawn.

About 75 residents have already applied for a tree but more are still available.
