Mentor Residents Report 500 Damaged Homes, 15 Referred To County For FEMA Aid

City must have 25 severely damaged buildings to get aid

With the county declaring itself a natural disaster area, Mentor is asking residents to report flood damage to receive federal aid.

The city has received about 500 reports of flood-damaged homes, said City Manager Ken Filipiak.

Of those 500 reports, the city referred 15 to Lake County Emergency Management Agency for it to determine whether they qualify for assistance by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

To qualify for FEMA aid, the city must have 25 primary homes or business with 40 percent uninsured structural damage.

While basement flooding occurred throughout the city, Filipiak said the flood hit Ward 3, the area South of Route 2, North of Lakeshore Boulevard and West of Melshore Drive.
