Mentor Launches CityFest Web Site To Promote New Event

People can learn more about the entertainment available and how to get involved with Mentor's inaugural CityFest on the site

The new festival will be Aug. 23 and 24 near the Mentor City Hall complex.

CityFest is intended as both a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Mentor's incorporation as a city and as an update and upgrade on the classic It's Better In Mentor Festival.

The web site offers several previews of the new festival, including links to video of the Cincinnati Circus who will have a flying trapeze show, stilt walkers, jugglers, fire-hoops, acrobats and more at CityFest.

The site also has information about and video links for the band's headlining CityFest Friday and Saturday night -- Disco Inferno and Brit Beat, respectively.

There will be more information added on the festival's entertainment -- including the annual parade and 5K run, a new high school battle of the bands, an indoor laser tag game, fireworks and more -- as it gets closer to summer.

Perhaps most importantly, the site has information on how people can participate in the planning and preparation for CityFest.

The city is looking for nonprofit community organizations in Mentor -- like PTOs/PTAs, scout groups, church groups and youth sports organizations -- to provide carnival-type games. If a group is interested, they can contact Bob Taylor or Maggie Kuyasa at Mentor Recreation at 440-974-5720.

Furthermore, the city will need volunteers for communications and publicity, set up and clean up, recycling, volunteer management, day-of festival services, ticket and wristband sales, and logistics.

The city will post a volunteer application on the site Friday.

Finally, applications are now available online for food and non-food vendors interested in being part of CityFest.
