Mentor Council Appoints Bucey's Replacement

Matthew Donovan, a longtime resident and member of the city's board of zoning appeals, is the new Ward 2 councilman.

Less than three weeks after Carolyn Bucey drafted her resignation letter, Mentor City Council has appointed her Ward 2 replacement.

Council voted 5-1 to select Matthew Donovan as the new councilman. Donovan is a longtime Mentor resident and had been a member of the city's Board of Zoning Appeals.

"He and his family have a long history of working with the city," Council President Scott Marn said. "We're excited to move him up."

Donovan was a member of the 2012 United Way of Lake County Board of Directors. He works at Relmec Mechanical in Cleveland and had been a business representative for the Journeyman Plumbers Union in Cleveland.

Marn said he, Council Vice President Ray Kirchner and the administration will sit down with Donovan a couple times before the Sept. 3 meeting to bring him up to speed on "any and everything."

Bruce Landeg is the only council member who voted against Donovan's appointment.
