Mentor City Council to Vote on New Contracts for Police Unions

Patrolmen, dispatchers, corrections officers, sergeants and lieutenants would each receive 2 percent raises for the next three years under the new contract

Mentor City Council is scheduled to vote on new contracts for three of the city's police unions during its meeting 7 p.m. at .

The contracts will be for the patrolmen, lieutenants and sergeants, and corrections officers and dispatchers.

The new contracts would go into effect retroactively as of March 28 and last for three years.

If approved, the contracts would give all those involved 2 percent raises for the final two years of the 3-year contract.

This would add about $180,000 to the annual operating budget.

However, the employees will also increase their contributions to cover health insurance costs.

The city of Mentor is still in negotiations with its other unions.

Other items that are on the agenda for this evening's meeting:

  • Council is scheduled to have a hearing and vote on if an auto repair shop can operate at 5879 Heisley Road.
  • Council will vote on whether or not to auction some of the city's older vehicles, including a pair of ambulances.
