Mentor Board of Zoning Appeals Approves Two Variance Applications

Board Rejects One Variance Request for Addition

The Mentor Board of Zoning Appeals approved two variance requests and rejected one at its regular meeting Tuesday at Mentor City Hall.

The BZA granted a variance to install a second freestanding sign for the George E. Hayward American Legion Post #9295 building at 8682 Mentor Avenue. City code limits businesses to one freestanding sign exclusive of entrance and exit signs.

The BZA also approved a variance request for Joseph and Barbara Mongelluzzi to install a second curb/cut access for a driveway at 8893 Perkins Avenue. City code limits only one curb/cut access for a driveway in a family residential district.

The BZA rejected a variance request by Steven and Ofelia Johnson to allow an addition to an existing garage with a 12-foot side setback and a 29-foot rear setback at 7398 Parker Drive. City code requires a minimum side setback of 15-foot and a minimum 50-foot rear setback.

The next BZA meeting is scheduled for January 11, 7 p.m., at Mentor City Hall.
