The “Combating Teenage Bullying in Your Schools” Seminar Series is aimed at helping school administrators, staff, bus drivers and educators address bullying and harassment, both on campus and off

The office of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) will hold the second in a series of seminars to combat school bullying from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today (May 8) at .

The “Combating Teenage Bullying in Your Schools” Seminar Series is aimed at helping school administrators, staff, bus drivers and educators address bullying and harassment, both on campus and off.

The senator's office has paired with the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Attorney’s Office, U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the Ohio Department of Education, the Anti-Defamation League, Gay and Lesbian Education Network and Equality Ohio to hold the seminars.

"Whether it happens on school grounds, on the Internet or via cell phones, bullying has disturbing consequences for victims. All students deserve a healthy learning environment – with the resources, support and safety needed to grow and thrive," Brown said in a news release.

"That’s why these seminars are so important. We may never fully end bullying in all forms – but we can take a stand against it."

The seminar will focus on:

  • Promoting healthy, safe, and productive schools for Ohio’s students
  • Educating attendees on issues of accountability, legal compliance and law enforcement with regard to school bullying and harassment
  • Providing materials for all attendees with a compilation of valuable resources to address these challenges.

According to the Ohio Department of Education, as many as 50 percent of students are bullied at some time during the school year and 10 percent of students are bullied on a regular basis.

Well i wish they wouldn't have had it the same night as our monthly PTA meeting at Hopkins elem. so we have to choose between these. And I suppose this is why the principal at Memorial Middle has cancelled her appearance and talk at our meeting tonight.
