Cleveland Plumbing Supply Company Moving Into Former Clark Dodge Building

Planning Commission approved permits for several new businesses that want to move into the city

One of Mentor's most visible vacant buildings will have a new tenant soon.

The Mentor Planning Commission to run a company warehouse and wholesaling operation at the former Dodge Clark building at 7272 Mentor Ave.

The Cleveland Plumbing Supply Company is a family-operated business that's been around since 1932 in Northeast Ohio and has leased a location on Tyler Boulevard since 1982.

The business has eight employees in Mentor right now.

Before approving the permit, the Commission discussed a fence surrounding the property.

Whenever a business stores material outside, the city code requires they have a fence at least a foot taller than the stored goods around it.

The plumbing company had requested an 8-foot vinyl fence that bordered two edges of the property and a chain link fence with vinyl slats along the back. A representative for the company said the vinyl fencing costs three times as much as the chain link fence with slats.

However, the commission was concerned the chain link fence would not look as good and asked the CSPC to put the vinyl fence along all three sides.

"Let's put the vinyl fence in," Planning Commission Member Katherine Cimperman recommended. "Let's not to do anything halfway."

The plumbing company acquiesced to the Commission's request as a stipulation of its permit.

Also at the meeting:

  • The commission approved a patio for a new restaurant -- Scrambler Marie's Breakfast Bistro -- at 9570 Mentor Ave, Unit A.
  • Also, the commission approved the return of the this Halloween season.
  • Additionally, the commission voted to approve a permit for a new Fitness Club at Heisley Point Shopping Center.
  • The Commission decided to not vote on a permit for in the old AMVETS building at 4679 Corduroy Road
