Council can also vote on the purchase of a new fire truck

Mentor City Council is scheduled to have a work session at 5:30 p.m. before its regularly scheduled bimonthly meeting at 7 p.m. in City Hall.

During the work session, Council is slated to discuss the 2013 city budget as well as the future of the Beautification Commission.

Meanwhile, at the meeting, Council can vote on the purchase of a new fire truck for the Mentor Fire Department.

The city did not plan to buy a new truck until next year. However, it can save $19,376 if it buys the truck this year, Fire Chief Richard Harvey said in a memo to City Manager Kenneth Filipiak.

The truck would cost $484,401 if bought this year.

Finally, the city has received a grant for boating safety education programs from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft.

This is the 12th consecutive year the city has received the grant. It is worth $11,000.

The money will be used to pay for kayaks, paddles, life jackets, paddle boards and instructor training.
