City Council Approves Grant For Local Business

Mentor City Council approved a grant for an expanding local manufacturer during its meeting Tuesday night.

, a general tool and die machine shop, bought its current building at 8785 East Avenue in 2004. Now, to accommodate growth, it wants to add a 4,500-square-foot expansion.

The expansion will cost $210,00 for the building and another $80,000 for a new CNC machine, Mentor's Economic Development Director Ron Traub said.

Council voted to give Sulecki a $4,000 economic development grant to help pay for its new equipment.

As part of the grant, Sulecki will have to increase its payroll from $475,000 annually to $600,000.

"The first three months have been marked by in the Mentor community, especially in manufacturing," Traub said.

Also at the meeting:

• Council approved the purchase of 92 vehicle radios, 45 portable radios and four base station units for the city's Public Works Department.

The city needed to buy the radios so it could comply with FCC regulations that go into affect in 2013, Mentor City Manager Kenneth Filipiak said.

The radios cost $93,737. Filipiak said the city paired with the city of Eastlake to buy in bulk and saved $23,000 by doing so.

• Three Girl Scout Troops attended the meeting and received a proclamation from the city celebrating their organization's 100th anniversary.
