Woman Is Accused Of Drunken Driving, Causing 6-Car Crash

Two people were taken to the hospital after the crash

A Mentor woman is accused of driving while drunk and causing a 6-car crash Monday afternoon on Heisley Road.

Doris Wass, 72, was driving south on Heisley just north of the intersection with Tyler Boulevard when she lost control of her Kia Forte, Mentor Police Sgt. Mike Majernik said.

First, Wass hit the curb on her right side. Then she swerved back and hit another car in the side. Next she drove between a Dodge Neon and Honda Civic, sideswiping them both, Majernik said.

Finally, her Forte rear ended a Chevrolet Silverado -- which was, in turn, pushed into a GMC Envoy, Majernik said.

Though nobody was seriously hurt in the crash, the drivers of the Neon and Civic were taken to TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township as a safety precaution.

Wass was uninjured.

She told police she drank half a beer before leaving her house. She consented to taking a Breathalyzer test but would not do it correctly, Majernik said.

She has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. She has never been charged with drunken driving before.
