Woman Convicted Of Driving While Intoxicated In A Taxi

Kostal was also convicted of having an open container and possession of drug paraphernalia, thought charges of child endangerment and marijuana possession were dismissed

A woman admitted to driving a taxi while intoxicated.

Camille Kostal, 29, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernalia and open container Monday in Mentor Municipal Court.

She also faced charges of child endangering and marijuana possession but they were dismissed.

Kostal was sentenced to 90 days in jail, but 76 of those days were suspended and she was given credit for 14 days she already spend behind bars.

Consequently, this means she can avoid any additional jail time if she does not violate her probation.

The judge also ordered Kostal to complete a chemical abuse program and fined her $875. However, she can participate in volunteer work in lieu of paying the fine.

Kostal was arrested in July by Mentor Police when an officer spotted her driving a taxi van with a lit sign.

The van had both changed lanes and turned into the parking lot of Studio 6 without signalling so the officer pulled her over, Mentor Police Lt. Ken Zbiegien said at the time of Kostal's arrest.

The officer suspected that Kostal was driving while on a drug so he asked her to take some field sobriety tests, which she failed so he arrested her, Zbiegien said.

She would later refuse to give a blood sample for drug tests, Zbiegien said

Kostal had two people in the van with her at the time, including a 14-year-old family member.
